If you are an avid underwater photographer, Cozumel's marine life is a phenomenal source of pleasure and satisfaction.
From baby sea turtles (they are everywhere), to giant manta rays (if you visit the outer reefs), to nudibranches, to dolphins, and of course, our favorite, seahorses, you will find no shortage of great photo opportunities.
What every underwater photographer needs, is a great resource on land to develop your film, rescue your flooded cameras, sell you more film when you run out (believe me you will), and rent you reliable equipment when you need it.
The best resource on Cozumel (and I would daresay in the world), is Holly and Armando Alentado at Island Photo and Video Center, located in the La Ceiba Hotel just a short taxi ride south of the Casa. Their phone number is (011-52-987) 872-58-33 and email is: photocoz@cozumel.net. Contact them in advance to reserve your equipment and to arrange for classes (they are PADI certified instructors) if you're interested.
Mary writes: "I made their acquaintance a years ago, when Allan encouraged me to try my hand at underwater photography. I had never held a camera underwater before and was uncertain about whether I could manage a camera, taking a shot and me! Within 24 hours, Holly had me taking pictures that astonished me and them!"
So even if you're a beginner, Holly and Armando will take good care of you. Holly is a gifted teacher, besides being a great photographer, and she makes learning about your equipment and photography a lot of fun.
You can choose to learn on a standard 35mm camera with film, a digital camera, or a videocamera. It's all about what you prefer. And Holly spends a good amount of time helping you decide what that is.
Holly and Armando are well-known underwater photographers. Much of their work is published by Rodale's, The Discovery Channel, The Travel Channel and hundreds of other places.
All the professional underwater photographers who come to Cozumel, rely on Holly and Armando. And you can too, whether you're a novice or an expert. Oh, by the way, when you stop in, say "hi" from me! |
